Module 2: Cultural and religious characteristics

Since the new millennium, violent conflicts around the world have contributed to a significant increase in the number of international migrants, reaching nearly 260 million in 2017, including almost 26 million refugees. On top of that, recent political developments in Europe have come to remind us how quickly nationalism can become a dominant ideology, bringing a rapid and negative transformation in society. These political events can have a negative effect on migrants’ and refugees’ integration. Indeed, they not only have to integrate into a dominant culture different from their own but they also risk that their beliefs, practices, and values are not accepted in the host country
